- What is RED testing?
- Testing against the Radio Equipment Directive 2014/53/EU, required for any product that intentionally transmits or receives radio waves (Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, cellular, RFID and similar). It covers radio spectrum use and, for specified categories, additional requirements under Article 3.3 — including, since August 2025, cybersecurity requirements for internet-connected and data-processing radio equipment.
- Does RED testing replace EMC testing?
- No. A radio product typically needs both — RED testing for radio-specific requirements plus general EMC testing, since RED equipment is also electrical/electronic equipment. They’re assessed under different articles and often by the same lab but as separate test scopes.
- What changed with the RED cybersecurity requirements?
- From 1 August 2025, radio equipment that can communicate over the internet, processes personal/traffic data, or handles virtual money must additionally meet cybersecurity, privacy and fraud-protection requirements under Delegated Regulation (EU) 2022/30 — on top of the existing RED essential requirements.
