- Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) testing verifies that a product neither emits excessive electromagnetic interference nor is unduly affected by interference from other equipment — required for most electrical and electronic products placed on the EU market under the EMC Directive 2014/30/EU.
- How is EMC testing different from RED testing?
- EMC testing applies broadly to electrical/electronic equipment under the EMC Directive. RED (Radio Equipment Directive) testing applies specifically to radio equipment and additionally covers radio spectrum use and, for some products, health and safety and network protection — a radio product typically needs both.
- Does the lab need to be accredited?
- For self-declaration of conformity, accreditation (ISO/IEC 17025) isn’t always a legal requirement, but test reports from an accredited lab carry more weight with notified bodies, customers and market surveillance authorities, and are effectively expected for anything beyond the simplest products.
